Before You Begin

Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Important
Complete back glass removal steps 1 through 3. Then continue to step 1.

Use a torque driver and the trilobe bit to remove six trilobe screws.

Use a torque driver and the crosshead bit to remove five crosshead screws. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.

Remove the logic board cowling and the back glass cowling and save them for reassembly.

Lift the ends of the battery flex cable (1) and the back glass flex cable (2) off the connectors.

Caution: You must disconnect the battery flex cable first to ensure that the iPhone stays turned off.

Hold the back glass by the edges. Pull the tabs on the suction cups to release them from the back glass. Then set the back glass facedown on a clean, flat surface.

Remove the Taptic Engine chin cowling and the Taptic Engine cowling and save them for reassembly.

Use the black stick or adhesive cutter to separate the Taptic Engine flex cable from the USB-C connector flex cable. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.

Lift the end of the Taptic Engine flex cable off the connector.

Remove the Taptic Engine.

Lift the end of the microphone flex cable off the connector.

Remove the main microphone.

Reassembly
Screw Diagram

Clean any residual adhesive from the enclosure.

Peel the protective liner off the replacement main microphone and position the main microphone in the enclosure. Press the main microphone into place for 20 seconds to activate the adhesive.

Press the end of the main microphone flex cable to the connector.

Use the gray torque driver to reinstall one new crosshead screw (923-13686) into the main microphone.
